Sport and Remedial Massage
Therapy
Everyone suffers with muscular aches, pains or
an injury from time to time, often caused by over-activity or inactivity,
also from occupational or emotional stress. If a condition is not
diagnosed and treated, long term chronic problems can occur leading
to muscular or postural imbalances.
The primary purpose of massage is to help alleviate
the stress and tension that builds up in the body's soft tissues
(muscles, tendons and ligaments). Strains and sprains, due to the
sudden onset of pain and dysfunction, are dealt with very quickly.
Many more common injuries are caused by over-use syndrome. This
occurs when a minor soft tissue trauma/tear, goes undetected or
is ignored. Through repetitive use, sporting or otherwise, a chronic
injury is often the result. A Sports Massage Practitioner will identify
the root cause of an injury and take appropriate action to prevent
a reccurance of the problem.
Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy combines ancient and modern therapy
skills with an understanding of how the body functions and dysfunctions,
creating a versatile method of treatment, with wide ranging benefits.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage Therapy, although of major benefit
to all sports and exercise participants in their recovery from training
and/or injury, is also beneficial to those with physically demanding
or sedentary jobs, as well as those suffering from the occupational,
emotional or postural stresses of everyday life.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage Therapy uses a full range of techniques
for the treatment of acute injuries, or when a problem seems to
linger (becomes chronic). It is extremely effective when treating
conditions such as a sore neck and shoulders, back ache, hip, knee
and ankle problems, etc. In fact, all chronic muscular aches and
pains can be treated very effectively.
Anybody can be treated providing there are no pre-existing
conditions which will contra-indicate treatment. An initial consultation
and brief patient history will establish whether Sports Massage
Therapy is the appropriate treatment to use.
Sports Massage Association
Members of the Sports Massage Association are able
to identify anyone for whom Sports Massage therapy would be ill-advised
or detrimental to their short or long-term well being. Each individual
is assessed, the appropriate techniques are used, or advice is given
for alternative action, if required.
