Frequently Asked Questions
Who should have Sports
Massage Therapy?
Anybody who is recovering from an injury, or with
muscular problems/aches and pains brought about by over activity
or inactivity, e.g. lifting large objects, or sitting at a desk/computer
all day.
Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy is also beneficial
to those who just want to experience a general feeling of well being.
How often will I require
treatment?
This depends on each individual. Some people require
treatments in quick succession to assist in the healing process
of a specific injury.
Some find that a weekly treatment helps to control their stress
levels, whilst others find that a maintenance treatment every few
weeks works well.
What happens during
a treatment?
A brief history is taken prior to the first treatment.
During the treatment, a general base oil or lotion
is often used as a lubricant. This allows the therapist's hands
to glide across the skin without causing any surface friction. The
lubricant soaks into the skin quite quickly.
Some treatments may require the use of deep tissue
techniques. As a result, you may occassionally feel some post-treatment
soreness, which should disappear after a day or two. This is usually
a sign that the treatment is having a positive effect.
Sessions take place in a calm and un-hurried atmosphere.
There is time if necessary, after your treatment to ask any questions
that you may have regarding your progress.
